His next novel, The Great Glass Sea, will be published in 2014. He lives with his girlfriend and her daughter in two side-by-side wood-heated cabins in Nevada City, California.

He lives with his family in Forest City, Iowa, and though he doesn’t travel as often as he used to, he often daydreams about driving across Nebraska while listening to Gram Parsons’s Grievous Angel.

On The Cover

William Carter lives in Los Altos Hills, California, and his most recent book of photographs is Causes and Spirits. In 1983, after he had been a photojournalist for twenty-three years, he decided he wanted to photograph nudes. He took a beginner’s workshop at which he offered to pose, but no one took him up on it. He took the cover photograph at that same workshop.
