Samuel Epstein

Dr. Samuel Epstein is professor emeritus of environmental and occupational medicine at the University of Illinois School of Public Health in Chicago. He is one of the world’s foremost authorities on the carcinogenic effects of toxic and industrial pollutants in air, water, the workplace, and consumer products. Epstein is the author of The Politics of Cancer, The Safe Shopper’s Bible, and The Breast Cancer Prevention Program, among others. He has been president or chair of many organizations, including the Rachel Carson Council, the Society of Occupational and Environmental Health, and at present the Cancer Prevention Coalition, and he recently won the Right Livelihood Award, commonly known as the Alternative Nobel Prize.
