Steve Almond’s work has appeared or is forthcoming in Fiction Writer, Zoetrope, and the New England Review. He lives in Somerville, Massachusetts.


Wendell Berry lives and works with his wife, Tanya, on their farm in Port Royal, Kentucky. His latest book, the novel Jayber Crow: The Life Story of Jayber Crow, Barber, of the Port William Membership, is due out this fall from Counterpoint.


Michael Chitwood lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and is the author of three poetry collections and one book of essays. Until recently, he was cleanshaven.


Jim Hightower is a best-selling author and radio commentator who has twice been elected to statewide office in Texas. He publishes a monthly newsletter, the Hightower Lowdown, and is proud to be a Luddite with a website.


Derrick Jensen lives in Crescent City, California. His latest book is A Language Older Than Words (Context Books).


Stefan G. Kertesz is a physician with the Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program. He will marry his sweetheart, Alice, in New Orleans in November.


Elissa Nelson’s fiction has appeared in Seventeen, Utne Reader, and in her own zine, Hope. She is currently completing her first novel and planning a national tour of sites where the Virgin Mary has appeared. She lives in Portland, Oregon.


Bill O’Connell is the author of the chapbook On the Map to Your Life (Dytiscid Press). His poem in this issue is from a manuscript titled Loving You in Your Sleep. He earns his living as a social worker in western Massachusetts.
