They say the New Age has arrived, that our consciousness is being raised, that we are witnessing a new stage in our evolution. Though I don’t consider myself a pessimist, it’s hard for me to overlook the spiritual apathy, old-fashioned greed, and general selfishness that seems to pervade our civilization. The advent of a beautiful New Age is difficult to see when the nasty old ways still predominate.
There has always been a small group within the larger population which has tried to rise above it, to reach out for the hand of God, to seek a reality beyond this one. I do believe that those visionaries grow more numerous with each generation. But I fear that today’s well-publicized spiritual revolution is just another fad. Like civil rights, peace, and ecology, it’s a bandwagon to ride for a while until the road gets so muddy the riders have to get out and walk on their own. Not many people are willing to dirty their feet.
I don’t think the heralds of the New Age have appeared yet, but we who await them must keep the true light shining.
A beautiful soul with whom I share my secrets would offer this sweet to all those who seek a New Age:
Elyse’s Super Fudge
1 cup honey
1 cup peanut butter
1 cup carob powder
1 cup chopped nuts
½ cup chopped dates
Melt the honey and peanut butter in a saucepan over low heat. Mix in other ingredients. Spoon into an ungreased shallow pan and refrigerate for an hour. Serve with love.
