Robert McChesney has been raising the alarm about the growing domination of the media by giant firms and special interests for nearly two decades. He teaches at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he is a professor in the Institute of Communications Research. McChesney earned his Ph.D. in communications from the University of Washington. He is the author or editor of seven books including Rich Media, Poor Democracy: Communication Politics in Dubious Times; Corporate Media and the Threat to Democracy; Global Media: The Missionaries of Corporate Capitalism, with Edward S. Herman; and, most recently, Free the Media: Unleash the Democracy, with John Nichols. McChesney is also co-editor of the Monthly Review, an independent socialist magazine founded in 1949.
