John Hodgen teaches English at Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts. His fourth book of poetry, Heaven & Earth Holding Company, was released by University of Pittsburgh Press, and his first book, In My Father’s House, has just been reprinted.

After he died, my mother gave me his toolbox, / saying he would have wanted me to have it, / the hammer kept inside as if in a little grave.
