Jessica Barksdale lives in the Pacific Northwest and spends much of her time paddling boats. Her first short-story collection, Trick of the Porch Light, will be published this month.


Shuly Xóchitl Cawood teaches online writing workshops and raises orchids at her home in Tennessee. Her new poetry collection, Something So Good It Can Never Be Enough, is forthcoming in September.


Molia Dumbleton’s stories have appeared in Ecotone and The Kenyon Review. She lives near Chicago and dreams about having some land of her own, where she can lie on her back and look up.


Leslee Goodman is a writer and filmmaker who lives in Twisp, Washington, where her current obsessions include line dancing and karaoke singing.


Jackleen Holton works as an astrological life coach and sometimes finds poems on the rim of a canyon in Southern California. Her work has appeared in Bellingham Review and Cimarron Review.


Elizabeth Knapp is the author of two books of poetry, Requiem with an Amulet in Its Beak and The Spite House. She lives in Maryland.


Maria Kuznetsova was born in Kyiv, Ukraine, and moved to the United States as a child, where she learned English by watching Married. . . with Children. She has published two novels and teaches at Auburn University.


Courtney LeBlanc is the author of three poetry collections and the founder of Riot in Your Throat, an independent poetry press. She lives in Virginia.


Mishele Maron is a former chef who is working on a memoir about her years as a cook in the marine industry. She lives in Seattle, Washington.

Margo Steines lives in Tucson, Arizona. Her debut memoir, Brutalities, is forthcoming in October. She is mom to a small human and folds a tremendous amount of tiny laundry.



Brittany Alston is a self-taught photographer and visual artist who lives in South Carolina.


Jacki Dickert lives in New Jersey. She is a certified master tree steward and teaches tree-appreciation programs.


Rachel J. Elliott has worked at The Sun for more than twenty-five years. She lives in North Carolina.


Mina Hatami was born in Iran and immigrated to the United States in 2016. She recently graduated from Radford University in Virginia with a master’s degree in studio art.


Jon Kral retired from photojournalism and moved to North Carolina twenty years ago. His two young grandchildren keep him from becoming the old mountain hermit he sometimes yearns to be.


Rob Lancaster has loved photography since he first looked through the viewfinder of a Pentax camera at age fifteen. He lives in Libertyville, Illinois.


Jan Phillips has been fighting homophobia with her camera since the 1970s and has traveled the world advocating for justice. She lives in San Diego, California.


Joseph Rodríguez teaches at New York University and has published seven books of photography, including Taxi: Journey through My Windows 1977–1987.


Katerina Spajic is from New York City but attends college in Southern California.


Morgan Tyree lives in Powell, Wyoming, where he has been working on sourdough pancakes. The last couple of batches have been really dialed in, and he thinks it’s time to introduce blueberries to the batter.

Steven Miller has been a photographer, musician, journalist, and homosexual in Seattle, Washington, for more than thirty years. He’s marrying a man next year and couldn’t be happier to shred the moral fabric of society. He took the photo on this month’s cover in 2021 as his friend Ruben floated in Lake Washington.
